Missouri House Condemns Dred Scott Decision

The Missouri House has voted to condemn the 1852 decision by the Missouri Supreme Court that denied Dred Scott and his family their freedom.

In the case, Scott vs. Emerson, he sought judgement that the family was free because they had lived in the free state of Illinois. The Supreme Court overturned a lower court’s ruling, saying the family was not free.

The vote was made with Scott’s descendants in attendance.

The resolution now moves to the Senate.
