Cole County Judge Rules Firing of State Trooper Unlawful

A Cole County Judge is ruling the firing of a Missouri State Trooper involved in the drowning death of a man was unlawful.

The ruling was made yesterday (Wednesday) in the lawsuit against the Missouri State Highway Patrol where former trooper Anthony Piercy says Superintendent Sandra Karsten overstepped her boundaries by firing him.

Judge Patricia Joyce in her ruling notes in her ruling the superintendent is only allowed the extreme remedy of removal only when a panel of the employee’s peers finds the removal appropriate.

Piercy’s lawsuit is also seeking that the patrol reinstate him.

The judge wrote that this part of the lawsuit will require a hearing.
