Opoid Related Deaths Up While Rate of Increase Slowing Down

A new report from the department of Health and Human Services is showing that opoid-related deaths in the state are increasing, however the rate of the increase is slowing down.

According to the report in 2017 deaths attributed to opoids jumped to 951, that was up from 2016 when it was 908.

From 2015 to 2016 there was a 35 percent increase.

From 2017 to this year it was a 4.7 percent increase.

According to the director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services the declining rate of opoid deaths shows improvement statewide and the department is continuing to work on decreasing the number of deaths.
