Jefferson City Man Injured After Falling Asleep Behind the Wheel

A Jefferson City man is recovering from non-life threatening injuries this (Monday) morning after falling sleep and hitting a barrier.

Jefferson City police say a 1988 pick up driven by Richard Akin crashed into the center barrier around 5:22 this (Monday) morning on the 600 block of US Highway 54.

Akin was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The traffic lanes leading to Highway 50/63 were closed for about 45 minutes while emergency personnel worked the scene.
