Thousands Of Jobs Potentially Coming To Jefferson City With Possible Port Construction

A port being built along the Missouri River in Jefferson City that could bring thousands of jobs to Mid Missouri over multiple years is one step closer.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approved the Heartland Port Authority of Central Missouri’s application yesterday (Wednesday).

A study done by Cambridge Systematics estimated that over 5,000 jobs would be created over a 25 year period.

The port would also reduce highway use for freight transportation.

There is no timeline for the port to be completed and it will be done in phases.
