Missouri Senate Passes Restrictive Abortion Bill

A bill to ban abortions at 8 weeks of pregnancy is now passed by Missouri’s Republican-led Senate.

The legislation was approved 24-10 yesterday (Thursday).

Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Ohio have approved bans on abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can occur in the sixth week of pregnancy.

Alabama’s governor signed a near-total abortion ban yesterday (Wednesday).

Missouri’s bill will allow exceptions in cases of medical emergencies, not rape or incest.

The GOP-lead House will need to approve the bill before it can go to Governor Mike Parson, who is in support of it.
