Hearing Set For Ashcroft’s Referendum Denial On Abortion Law
A Cole Count Judge will listen to arguments this (Tuesday) afternoon for 2 requests to block Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft from denying petitions related to Missouri’s new abortion law.
Ashcroft announced last week his decision to reject 2 petitions to have the people vote on whether to overturn the abortion law.
He cited an emergency clause in the law as a basis for his rejection.
The ACLU along with Joplin businessman David Humphreys, submitted the referendum petitions, and filed motions to block Ashcroft’s decision.
The hearing is scheduled for 1:30 this (Tuesday) afternoon with Judge Daniel Green presiding.
