Center Police Chief Turns In Resignation

The Center, Missouri police chief is resigning effective immediately.

According to reports from the Hannibal Courier Post Center Police Chief David Ray submitted his letter of resignation yesterday (Thursday).

The letter comes after a month long campaign by 2 aldermen to fire Ray.

The move was overturned because it violated a state law defining specific procedures for firing a police chief.

The Center Board of Alderman voted 4-0 to fire Ray’s wife earlier this month after learning she had not filed a state mandated financial report since 2015, that cost the city one hundred forty four thousand dollars plus.

After his wife’s firing, David Ray was immediately placed on administrative leave by the mayor.

The former chief has not publicly commented as of now, and the Ralls County Sheriff’s Department is now providing coverage for Center as city officials consider their next steps.
