United States Facing French Fry Shortage

Unusually cold and wet weather during the potato harvest season may soon cause a french fry shortage in the United States.

According to reports from CNN processors from across North America are rushing to find potatoes from additional sources to keep up with the increasing demand for fries.

The US is the 5th largest producer of potatoes in the world, and overall production this year is forecast to fall about 6.1 percent from last year according to a November report from the US Department of Agriculture.

Fast food prices are not likely to change.

Experts say that prices at restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy’s have been fixed for the year through contracts, however consumers may see a price increase for fries at other places, like local bars, casual dining chains and the produce and frozen aisles at grocery stores.
