Missouri Democratic Party Asks for Governor to Apologize for COVID-19 Remarks

The Missouri Democratic Party is asking Republican Governor Mike Parson for an apology after he said that he is in no way to blame for a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases since he lifted restrictions on June 16.

Parson made comments on Tuesday, saying he did not believe the governor has personal responsibility for any virus, and compared the illness that has claimed the lives of almost one thousand people in his state to a flu bug.

The governor said that is no different than the flu virus, and also suggested the media has some responsibility for not doing a good enough job really telling people the facts.

Missouri Democratic Party spokesperson Kevin Donohoe said in a statement yesterday (Wednesday) the comments represent a new low for Parson’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
