Columbia City Manager Recommends Staff Cuts and Ending Contract for School Resource Officers

Columbia City Manager John Glascock is announcing plans to propose that the City of Columbia make cuts to full time, part time and temporary positions and the city council not renew the contract with Columbia Public Schools to provide 4 school resource officers.

Glascock plans to make cuts to 78.5 positions, eleven of the positions are currently filled according to the City of Columbia and the cuts would become effective October 1 as part of the 2021 budget.

In addition Glascock recommends to let the current contract between the City of Columbia and Columbia Public Schools for resource officers expire on June 30.

The officers would be moved to the community outreach unit.

The draft budget will be presented to the city council on July 24.
