ACLU of Missouri Suing Maries County Sheriff’s Office

The Maries County Sheriff is being sued by the ACLU of Missouri.

The suit filed yesterday (Friday) says the department violated the state’s open records law after Sheriff Chris Heitman’s office failed to provide documents related to the ACLU’s inquiry into social media posts.

The ACLU said in a new release that on June 17th it requested documents related to social media posts on the sheriff’s official Facebook Page that threatened protestors if they came to Maries County.

Heitman says his office did not stop working on the request howeer had to prioritize criminal investigations.

No hearings have been set in the case.
