St. Louis Cardinals are playoff bound after defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 in the final game of the regular season (Sunday) at Busch Stadium.

The Redbirds battled through a shortened season that included 17 days off to deal with a coronavirus outbreak that included 18 players being affected, 53 games in 44 days, and 11 doubleheaders.

The Cardinals enter the postseason as the 5th seed in the National League and will go to Sand Diego and face the Padres for the Wild Card Series starting on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Royals ended their season with a 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.

It was also the last game of Alex Gordon’s career, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the season.

The Royals finished the year winning 12 of its last 18 games.
