Investigation Into Incident Where Person was Shot With Columbia Police Department Owned Firearm

An incident in which a person was shot by a Columbia Department owned firearm is under review.

Officers were dispatched to the University Hospital on October 5th to investigate a reports of a gunshot victim in the ER.

The person was said to be conscious and alert.

The investigation determined the victim was shot by a firearm used by the Columbia Police Department and registered to a non-commissioned employee, who was attending the University of Missouri law Enforcement Training Institute.

The employee has since been placed on administrative leave.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is now investigating the case.
