New Addition Coming to University Hospital to Allow Consolidation

University of Missouri Board of Curators approve building an addition to University Hospital at today’s (Thursday) board meeting.

The 7-story addition will be built on the east side of University Hospital’s patient tower and will ultimately house MU Women’s and Children’s hospital.

The project is expected to cost two hundred fifty million dollars and construction should begin in May of 2021 and be completed in just over 3 years.

Building age, technology advances and anticipated growth are reasons cited for the new building.

UM System President and MU Chancellor Mun Choi says he expects the Board of Curators to decide what it wants to do with the existing Women’s and Children’s Hospital building sometime next year, whether they lease, sell, or keep it for additional space are all options.
