Vehicle Crash on the Highway 54 Bypass in Mexico Where a Driver Allegedly Fell Asleep at the Wheel is Under Investigation

An investigation is ongoing into an accident on the Highway 54 bypass in Mexico yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Mexico Public Safety responded to the accident north of the South Clark, exit around 1:20pm and learned that 46 year old Patrick Ryan of Mexico, was traveling westbound in his vehicle with his teenage children, when an eastbound vehicle entered his lane of travel.

Ryan swerved to avoid a collision and his vehicle rolled over and came to rest off the roadway.

According to witnesses the eastbound vehicle was driven by 27 year old Brooke Lucas of Bowling Green.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says Lucas indicated she fell asleep and crossed the centerline at the time of the accident.
