Test Tornado Warning Sends Alert to Many Cell Devices With No Wording Indicating it Was a Test

Many alerts were sent to cell devices in error this morning (Tuesday) as a part of a test Tornado Warning.

The test was done at 10 as part of the Missouri Severe Weather Preparedness Week.

Typically the warning is used to test Weather Radios, the Emergency Alert System and serves for local jurisdictions to test their outdoor warning sirens.

This morning the Tornado Warning also activated the Wireless Emergency Alert which sends alerts to many cell devices, and there was no wording indicating this was a test Tornado Warning.

An investigation is underway by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
