Bear & Elk Season Coming to Missouri

The Missouri Department of Conservation is announcing the dates for both black bear and elk seasons in the state.

Bear season will run for 10 days from October 18th to the 27th.

Hunters can apply for a permit during the month of May and random winners will be selected by July 1st.

Those random winners can then purchase permits for $25 each.

Elk season this year will be split into a 9-day archery season from October 16th to 24th and a 9-day firearms season from December 11th through the 19th.

Applications for the random drawing of the 5 elk permits available can be made during the month of May with winners drawn by July 1st.

Last year, all 5 hunters that were drawn harvested an elk.

Hunter Joe Benthall with the bull elk he harvested on December 12, 2020 in Shannon County. Benthall harvested the first elk of Missouri’s inaugural hunt after reintroducing them nearly a decade ago.
