Montgomery County Murder Suspect Wants Trial Date Moved Up and a New Judge

A Montgomery County murder suspect is asking for his trial date to be moved up and a new judge to preside over it.

Michael Humphrey is accused of being an accomplice in the shooting death of Ben Renick, a mid-Missouri snake breeder near New Florence in 2017.

Humphrey’s case was moved from Montgomery County to Audrain County last year.

Yesterday (Wednesday) Humphrey’s attorney made requests to Judge Jason Lamb to have his trial moved up and a new judge.

Trials for Humphrey have been delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic-related restrictions courts have place on jury trials.

Lamb said he would have to consult with Cape Girardeau County on jury selection should he decide to change the trial date.

Humphrey’s trial date is currently scheduled to begin October 14th.
