Two Recent Guests at Macon Comfort Inn and Suites Diagnosed With Legionnaires Disease

The public is being warned that recent guests of the Comfort Inn and Suites located at 1821 North Missouri Street in Macon have been diagnosed with Legionnaires Disease this month.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, in collaboration with the Macon County Health Department says the 2 guests used the hot tub or pool at the hotel during the last full week in March.

Officials say it is unknown whether the hotel was the source of the bacteria that caused the 2 people to become sick.

People can get Legionnaires disease, a serious type of pneumonia, by breathing in small water droplets containing Legionella bacteria.

Testing of the hot tub at the hotel indicated the presence of Legionella bacteria, all other test results were negative.
