Governor Parson Signs Bill Creating Prescription Drug Monitoring Program

Missouri is the final state in country to have a prescription drug monitoring program, following Governor Parson’s signing of Senate Bill 63 into law.

The program will assist healthcare professionals better monitor and dispense opioids and other prescribed controlled substances.

Patient information is protected information under HIPAA and will continue to be maintained as such per federal law.

Senate Bill 63 also considers patient information a closed record under state law and will not be provided to law enforcement agencies, prosecution officials, or regulatory bodies unless specifically allowed by HIPAA.
