New Wireless Emergency Alert Being Implemented By National Weather Service

The National Weather Service is adding a new warning to their wireless alert system.

Starting July 28th, warnings for destructive thunderstorms will begin being disseminated through the wireless alert system.

For a severe thunderstorm to meet destructive criteria, it must have winds in excess of 80 mph and/or baseball sized hail.

Currently, Wireless Emergency Alerts are only sent out for tornado warnings, flash flood warnings, Amber Alerts, Blue Alerts, and other warnings issued by the President for national emergencies.
