Missouri Supreme Court Rules Medicaid Expansion is Constitutional

The Missouri Supreme Court rules in favor of Medicaid expansion.

In the ruling issued today (Thursday), the court vacated Cole County Judge Jon Beetem’s ruling that the Medicaid expansion amendment was unconstitutional.

The court ruled that the amendment is constitutional because it neither appropriates money for a specific purpose nor removes the legislature’s discretion in appropriating money to Missouri’s Medicaid program.

The Supreme Court sent the case back to the 19th circuit, which will now have to make sure that the expansion is implemented to cover more than 275,000 Missourians.
