Missouri Military Academy Adds Former MU Dean of Students to Staff

A former University of Missouri Dean of Students is joining the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico as a learning specialist and guidance counselor.

After an extensive search the MMA hired Mark Lucas on July 1st.

As learning specialist and guidance counselor, Lucas will work to ensure every cadet’s success in the classroom. In collaboration with MMA faculty, he will assess and identify cadets’ learning styles in order to reinforce relational teaching and differentiated learning.

Through Leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, Lucas will implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic and personal/social development for all cadets, with an end goal to promote student success and respond to identified student needs.

Lucas holds a Bachelor of Science (Health and Human Development) from University of Maryland, College Park, MD; a Master of Arts (Education Administration) from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI; and a Doctor of Education (Leadership, Policy and Administration) from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.

He is the father of Matthew, and MMA Summer Academy graduate and a U.S. Marine veteran, and Katherine, a graduate of the University of Missouri.
