KWWR Sports Report 9/17/21

The 8th ranked Mexico Bulldogs Football Team will play the Marshall Owls on the road tonight (Friday). Kickoff is at 7pm.

The Bulldogs come into the game undefeated at 3-0 and play their first conference of the season.

Marshall is 0-2.

Some of the area high school football in week 4 tonight will see Blair Oaks traveling to Boonville, undefeated Bowling Green Bobcats host Wright City, California has a road game at Osage, Capital City hosts Rock Bridge, A big time showdown in the Clarence Cannon Conference as Centralia hosts Monroe City, Hickman goes to Battle, Hallsville hosts Eldon, Fulton is on the road against Hannibal, Harrisburg travels to Westran, Helias is at home playing Granite City, Illinois, Herman hosts Lutheran St. Charles, Jefferson City is on the road at Smith-Cotton, Kirksville hosts Moberly, Louisiana is at Crystal City, Macon goes to Highland, Mark Twain hosts MMA, North Callaway is at home against Van-Far, Palmyra hosts Brookfield, Paris gets Bayless, Montgomery County Travels to South Callaway, South Shelby hosts Clark County, Southern Boone with a home game against Versailles, Father Tolton travels to Bishop DuBourg.

The Mexico Bulldogs Girls Softball Team defeated their conference rival Fulton Hornets in dramatic fashion 10-9 in 9 innings last night (Thursday).

Abby Bellamy was clutch once again with a walk-off triple, Riley Thurman hit a home run, Taylor DeMint put up a triple, and Lexie Willer was solid at the plate going 3-5.

Mexico evened their record at 5-5 and will hit the road tomorrow to play Boonville.

The North Callaway Softball Team improved their record to 3-3 with a 3-2 win over Elsberry last night (Thursday).

Next up for North Callaway will be the Cairo Tournament with a game against Community R6 at 10am.

The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday (Thursday) and will start a 3 game series with San Diego Padres tonight (Friday) at Busch Stadium with positioning in the Wild Card race on the line.

The Redbirds enter today just a 1/2 game ahead of the Padres for the 2nd Wild Card spot.

Miles Mikolas is on the hill for the Redbirds.

First pitch is at 7:15pm.

The Kansas City Royals lost 7-2 to the Oakland A’s in the series finale at the K.

Royals slugger Salvador Perez continued to make history.

Salvy hit his 45th home run of the season and tied Hall of Famer Johnny Bench for the most home runs in a single season in which a player caught at least 75 percent of games.

Perez is also tied atop the Major League home run leader board and leads the Majors with 112 RBIs.
