KWWR Sports Report 10/4/21

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz is making a coaching staff change following Mizzou’s 62-24 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers Saturday.

Defensive line coach Jethro Franklin is out and defensive analyst Al Davis will step into that role for the rest of the season.

On of the bright spots in Saturday’s game was Kris Abrams-Draine’s 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, tying a school record for the longest kickoff return.

The Tigers continue their 3-game homestand with their 120th Homecoming Saturday, taking on the North Texas Mean Green, kickoff is set for 3:00.

Head Coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs went back to Reid’s former stomping grounds yesterday, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 42-30.

Reid had 140 wins with the Eagles and set a franchise record, and yesterday’s 100th win with the Chiefs set an NFL record.

Reid is now the only coach to record 100 wins with two teams.

The Chiefs snapped a 2-game losing streak after entering with a losing record for the first time since they were 4-5 in 2015.

While the Royals may have lost yesterday’s (Sunday’s) game to the Twins 7-3, there’s still something to celebrate.

Despite going 0 and 2 with a walk, Salvadore Perez still topped the majors with 121 RBI.

He ended the season tied with Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the home run lead in the big leagues at 48 which also matched the Royals season record set by Jorge Soler in 2019.

In a rain-shortened game yesterday (Sunday), the Cards dropped their regular-season finale to the Cubs 3-2.

They take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL wild card game Wednesday night first pitch at 7:10.

Adam Wainwright gets the start Wednesday night and at 40 will be the second-oldest Cardinal pitcher to start a postseason game behind 41-year old Grover Pete Alexander, who started Game 2 of the 1928 World Series.

Yesterday’s game was also the last game for Mike Shannon who hung up his headphones after a 50-year broadcast career with the Cardinals.

Shannon joins 13 others in MLB history to log 50 years in the broadcast booth and is only the 6th with that amount of time with one team.
