KWWR Sports Report 10/7/21

There is a new homerun queen for Mexico High School Softball. Abby Bellamy notched her spot at the top of the list hitting her ninth home run of the season last (Wednesday) against Hannibal. Bellamy was in a 3 way tie with Patience Lawson Holman – 1028 and Abby Oetting – 2018 and Logan Blevins from 2019.

Abby talked about wanting to break the record on our sister station’s “Am I Awake Morning Show” in July.

Flash forward to last night when her record breaking tater came in the 2nd inning. It was a three run Bellamy bomb. The Mexico Lady Bulldogs defeated the Hannibal Pirates 13-3 in 6 innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals season came to an end last night (Wednesday) with a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Wildcard Playoff game.

Tommy Edman got on base three times and stole a pair of bases, and scored in the first on a wild pitch.

It would be the Cardinals only run.

Redbirds reliever Alex Reyes gave up a hanging slider in the 9th for a walk-off two run homer from Chris Taylor.

The Dodgers have advanced to the National League Divisional Series against the San Francisco Giants that starts tomorrow night (Friday).

NFL Thursday Night Football has the 3-1 Los Angeles Rams visiting the 2-2 Seattle Seahawks.

Kickoff is at 7:20.
