KWWR Sports Report 11/5/21

The Mexico Bulldogs football team will look to defend their number one seed in their District bracket tonight (Friday) when they host the Eldon Mustangs at Hawthorne Heights.

The Bulldogs come into the District quarterfinal playoff game with a record of 7-2 and had a bye week last week.

Eldon is the 4 seed and advanced to this game by defeating Southern Boone 36-13 last week.

The winner advances to the championship game next week and will face either Blair Oaks or Boonville.

Kickoff is at 7pm.

Other games in the Quarterfinals of Districts in high school football playoffs tonight (Friday) include:

• Blair Oaks (8-2) travels to Boonville (8-2) in a rematch from week 4 where Boonville won 41-35
• Undefeated Bowling Green (9-0) is at home against the California Pintos (7-3)
• Centralia (6-4) is on the road facing undefeated Hallsville (9-0)
• Battle (5-4) travels to Holt (9-0)
• Fayette (9-1) hosts Harrisburg (8-2)
• Herman (4-6) goes to St. Charles Lutheran (7-2)
• Kirksville (7-3) hosts Jefferson City (5-4)
• Macon (6-4) is on the road playing Palmyra (4-5)
• Mark Twain (9-1) hosts St. Pius X (Festus) (8-2)
• Monroe City (9-1) at home against Brentwood (6-4)
• Sedalia Smith-Cotton (3-7) is on the road at Grain Valley (6-3)
• South Callaway (6-4) travels to Sweet Springs (7-3)
• Marceline (8-1) hosts South Shelby (4-6)

The St. Louis Blues got back in the win column last night (Thursday) with a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on the road.

The Blues improved to 7-1-1 on the season.

The St. Louis Cardinals declined team options on Matt Carpenter and Carlos Martinez, buying out each contract and officially adding each veteran to the free-agent fray yesterday morning (Thursday).

Carpenter was due twelve million in 2022, however was instead paid a 2 million dollar buyout.

Martinez possessed team option for 2022 at 17 million and 2023 at 18 million however the Cardinals instead paid him a five hundred thousand dollar buyout.
