Mexico and Audrain County Helping Housing Developers
A new collaborative effort between the City of Mexico and Audrain County using federal money to cover some infrastructure costs is designed to help ease the housing crunch in Mexico and Audrain County by making lots more affordable, according to Mexico’s Economic Development Director Russell Runge.
Public infrastructures include water and sanitary sewer as well as storm sewer lines.
Approval has to be made and monies spent before December 31, 2024.
Runge says there are already developers interested with at least two subdivisions just about ready to qualify.
At least one real estate agent sees multiple benefits to the program in that it could get renters into their own house, opening up more rentals and it could have people wanting to downsize to a new home opening up larger homes for other buyers.
