Missouri Military Academy Rifle Team Qualifies for Nationals With a Top 5 Finish at Sectionals
The Missouri Military Academy’s rifle team is qualified for Nationals after finishing 5th out of 75 teams at the JROTC Rifle Sectionals.
The MMA rifle team traveled to Camp Perry, Ohio for the sectionals competition February 10th through 12th.
The team is coached by Mike Shoemaker and CPT Joe Balvanz.
In addition, Cadet Lance Newland currently ranks in top 10 (9th) among all firers in the U.S. Army JROTC. Newland is a high school senior from Orangevale, California.
Against all Army and Air Force sporter class teams at Camp Perry this year (14), MMA placed our record best at 2nd overall.
MMA went into the finals round with three firers – another Academy team record.
Below are the rankings of MMA competitors at Camp Perry this year of 105 total firers:
- Cadet Lance Newland earned 2nd place overall with a very impressive 1162.1
- Cadet Ethan Zinser earned 6th against Army shooters and 7th overall with 1140.3
- Cadet Marco Afane earned 8th against Army shooters and 9th overall with 1124.7
- Cadet Rene Garcia earned 19th against all Army shooters at Camp Perry with 1013
- Cadet Blake Morais earned 20th against all Army shooters at Camp Perry with 1012
The MMA rifle team will return to compete in the JROTC National Championship at Camp Perry, Ohio from March 17th through 19th.
