Mexico Lady Bulldogs Soccer Gives Kirksville a Scare in Round One of District Tournament

The Mexico Lady Bulldogs soccer team fell just short in a 2-1 loss to the Kirksville Lady Tigers on Saturday in Round 1 of the District Tournament.

Senior Shelby Kennemore scored the goal for Mexico which was her 14th of the season.

Mexico Head Coach Haley Schafer says her team played Kirksville twice in the regular season losing 8-0 and 8-1, and this game was a huge improvement for the girls.

Schafer says “This was a hard ending to the season, but it is comforting knowing every player left it all on the field and played the best team game we’ve played.”

Mexico has submitted a record to MSHSAA for Tessa Haefling who recorded 322 saves in the season which is the fourth best in the state.

Once the record is officially recognized, Tessa will hold two MSHSAA state records.
