KWWR Sports Report 3/20/23

The Mizzou women’s basketball team continues play in the WNIT tonight as they head into round 2 facing Kansas in Lawrence.

Tipoff is set for 6:30.

Meanwhile, Mizzou wrestling did well at the NCAA championship in Tulsa.

Sophomore Keegan O’Toole became just the third wrestler in program history to win multiple national championships.

Saturday, he knocked off number 1 seed David Carr of Iowa State in an 8 – 2 decision to claim his second consecutive individual NCAA title at 165 pounds.

Number 6 seed Brock Mauller took 7th place with All-American honors, finishing in 8th place.

Rocky Elam took 3rd place and Zach Elam took 5th, both earning All-American.

As a team, Mizzou finished in 5th place with 64.5 points.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Bailey was stopped at Providence Road and Stewart Road near campus around 1:00 for an expired license plate and a lane violation.

He allegedly told the officer that he had consumed alcohol and performed poorly on a subsequent field sobriety test.

He was released after posting $500 bond and in a statement to the newspaper, Coach Drinkwitz said that he was suspended per athletics policy.

In spring training baseball from the weekend, St. Louis picked up 3 wins, 16-2 over the Marlins, 8-4 over Detroit, and a 9-7 win over the Mets.

The Royals did not fare as well, losing 12-1 on Friday to Los Angeles, 6-3 Saturday to the Rockies, and in split-squad action yesterday (Sunday), Arizona got a 13-2 win and it only took 6 innings for the Rockies to shut out KC 7-0.

In high school basketball championship action, in Class 4 boys Father Tolton took 4th place as did the Southern Boone Eagles on the girls side.

In Class 5, the boys of Jefferson City took third place while in Class 6, it was Troy Buchanan with a third place finish on the boys side and the Rock Bridge girls lost to Incarnate Word Academy 57 – 30 for a second place finish.

Sloppy and undisciplined were the adjectives used to describe the Battlehawks play in Saturday’s game against the D. C. Defenders in XFL action.

Self-imposed penalties hurt St. Louis at the Dome and a lackluster attitude wasn’t helping.

DC remains undefeated halfway through the 10 week season after the 28-20 win.

The Blues picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, beating Washington 5-2 on Friday and a 3-0 shutout of Winnipeg yesterday.
