Mexico School Board Discusses Budget and Salaries at Regular Meeting
The Mexico School District Board of Education meets in regular session tonight (Tuesday) and hears a number of presentations.
Justin Hagedorn addressed the board, representing the Rush Hill Community Church and Group Workcamps to request board approval to rent the Mexico High School campus for part of the summer for a youth camp.
Youth from across the U.S. will converge on Mexico to work on homes for the elderly and underprivileged and as they did in 2021, would like to use the campus as a staging area with youth using the high school classrooms as sleeping quarters.
200 campers participated in the 2021 work group, contributing six thousand volunteer hours over five days.
No decision was made by the board.
The Community Teacher’s Association addressed the board on salary issues for not only teachers but also support staff.
Jason Hoffman presented information to the board on how Missouri Capital Asset Advantage Treasury, a local government investment pool, could benefit the district by handling their investment portfolio to maximize return on investment.
During the budget workshop that closed out the meeting, Senate Bill 8 was discussed.
The bill, if passed, would change how property is assessed and could cost the district up to $600,000 according to estimates.
