Billing Paused After Cyber Attack on American Water Company
American Water Company announced yesterday (Monday), that it was the victim of a cyber-attack.
According to the New Jersey based water company the cyber-attack prompted them to pause billing to customers.
American Water provides services to over 14 million people in 14 states, including Missouri, and on 18 military installations.
According to a press release the company became aware on Thursday of last week of unauthorized activity and took immediate protective steps, including shutting down certain systems.
The company said it has notified law enforcement and is cooperating with them.
It also said customers will not face late charges while its systems are unavailable.
