Jocelyn Curtis Puts Up a Double-Double to Lead Community R-VI Lady Trojans to Overtime Victory Over Sturgeon
The Community R-VI High School Lady Trojans basketball team put up a 41-31 overtime victory against Sturgeon on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Community head coach Bob Curtis says “This game started just like we like it to. The girls have been so good defensively here before the break and Tuesday night was no different.
With the Sturgeon Lady Bulldogs having just 13 points at the half it felt very familiar to us.
The problem was our free-throws were not going down. We have had some better nights at the stripe the last few weeks but tonight was not one of them.
We were 7-21 in regulation for the line but it would really get better in the overtime.
We knew with a 30-27 lead with seconds to go the ball would wind up in Heath’s hand to try and tie the game and she hit one at the buzzer to send it to OT.
The game had been a defensive struggle with either team getting very many open looks at the basket.
That three by Heath at the buzzer kept Sturgeon from being out 7th opponent that scored less than 30 points in regulation against us.
I was very impressed however with how the Lady Trojans responded in the overtime.
We were phenomenal at the line going 5-6 from the stripe.
Peyton Beamer went 4-4 from the line, Jocelyn Curtis 2-2, and Chloe Johnson 1-2 when Sturgeon had to foul to try and get the ball back.
Senior Aaliyah Welch set the tone in the overtime as well connecting on two buckets the first two possessions of overtime.
It is always big to get the lead in an overtime situation.”
Aaliyah Welch led the Lady Trojans offense with 12 points.
Followed by Peyton Beamer with 11.
Jocelyn Curtis had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Community improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 Central Activities Conference.
