Audrain County Man Charged With Felonies Following Alleged Road Rage Incident in Columbia
A Mexico, Missouri man is charged with felonies after being accused of pulling out a gun, during an apparent road rage incident while driving in Columbia during the morning hours of Friday, March 28, 2025.
According to reporting from ABC 17 News, Jarrod Whelchel, was charged in Boone County with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
An arrest warrant was requested on Friday, March 28, 2025.
According to the probable cause statement, the alleged victim told police the incident happened on Highway 63 near the I-70 exit just before 8am.
The statement reads, the victim claimed that a man in a KRWS Electric Company vehicle was following him from Paris Road too close and the victim said the made an obscene gesture.
The driver, later identified as Whelchel is accused of following the victim and pulling up beside them and flashing a gun.
According to court documents, police contacted KRWS Electric Company and interviewed Whelchel, who claimed that the victim was tailgating him before the victim made an obscene gesture and Whelchel allegedly told police that he pulled out the gun to show that he was armed.
