Little Dixie Fire Crews Battle Two Major Simultaneous Fires
The following is a press release from Little Dixie Fire Protection District.
Little Dixie firefighters were called at 5:10pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, to provide mutual aid assistance to the North Callaway Fire Protection District for a reported natural cover fire on Callaway County Road 250, south of Auxvasse.
North Callaway units were on-scene of a 40-50-acres fire and requested assistance from five neighboring fire departments for personnel and brush trucks to help control the wind-driven flames.
Little Dixie responded with five personnel and one brush truck. At 6:09pm, Little Dixie firefighters were called to 11823 Audrain Road 933 for a report of a structure fire.
Initial reports, called in by a neighbor, indicated there was a detached garage with smoke and flames visible.
The garage was reported to be next to a house.
Fire crews arrived and found the garage structure fully engulfed in flames, which had also spread to the home.
Upon entering the home, crews discovered a large fire in the attic of the home.
It took fire crews over an hour to bring the flames under control in both structures.
The home suffered extensive fire damage to the attic and roof, with smoke, heat, and water damage throughout the remainder of the home.
The garage structure was completely destroyed by the flames.
Damage to the structures, owned by Douglas and Jennifer Buswell, is estimated at $300,000.
Little Dixie crews responded with seven apparatus and sixteen personnel.
The Little Dixie Fire Protection District would like to thank the Mexico Department of Public Safety for providing mutual aid assistance to help bring the fire under control.
