I-70 to Narrow for Construction Beginning Tonight
The next phase of construction on I-70 will bring the closure of access to or from Exit 137 for several months. The shift will go into effect overnight tonight, weather-permitting.
Construction crews working with the Missouri Department of Transportation have completed building two new lanes of I-70 in the existing median between Route J and Callaway County Route M/Hatton. Crews will now start reconstructing the existing eastbound lanes.
Overnight tonight, eastbound traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed lanes, separated from westbound traffic with a temporary concrete barrier wall.
During the traffic shift, eastbound I-70 will be narrowed to 10-foot lanes and speeds reduced to 55 mph. Those traveling eastbound will be unable to change lanes for the first three miles (mile marker 137-140).
This work is part of the first project in MoDOT’s Statewide Improve I-70 Program.
