Columbia to be in School May 27th

Blame it on the math. Fitting for a school, right. The Columbia Public School District will be required to hold school on May 27th, the day after the Memorial Day weekend.

The district had hoped for special legislation from the Missouri legislature to bail them out of a troubling problem. However, the bill didn’t quite live up to what it was originally hoped to do.

Instead, the district’s use of the traditional snow day, plus five days of alternative methods of instruction, plus a tow-hour delayed start, equals school on May 27th.

A new state law requires that districts have at minimum 169 days and 1,044 hours in order to receive additional state funding. So while many students may not show up for the final day, it does mean the district hits the minimum requirements for the additional %750,000 in funding.
