Columbia Fire Department Performs Technical Rescue
A scary accident yesterday morning in Columbia as firefighters and paramedics were called to the 300 block of Parkwood Court.
A Columbia Fire Department ladder truck, now equipped for technical rescue operations, got a workout. At approximately 10am, a construction accident resulted in the rebar impalement of a person’s leg.
Rescue crews used special tools to cut and remove the metal and some railroad ties, while keeping the patient’s leg in place to prevent further injury, according to the Fire Department.
The patient was stabilized and transported to a local hospital with the portion of the reinforced bar supported and still intact, according to the Fire Department.
