Columbia Board of Education Looks at Transfer Policy
On the docket tonight for the Columbia Board of Education is a resolution to change the school district’s student transfer policy.
The school district will evaluate student transfer requests from non-district employees on a case-by-case basis, considering educational needs of the student rather than convenience, according to the board’s agenda.
New to the rules, would be a more permanent resolution, meaning once a transfer has been approved, the student can continue to attend the transfer school without having to be renewed every school year.
The district, may, however, rescind a transfer for cause, including disciplinary issues, poor attendance and other issues. If a student chooses to return to their home school, they are not eligible for another transfer for one full school year.
The district refers to transfers as a privilege, not a right.
