Williamsburg Woman Arrested for Tampering
A 66-year-old Williamsburg woman has been charged for allegedly tampering with a Montgomery County judge.
Laura Baldwin, is charged with felony tampering with a judicial officer.
According to a probable cause statement, an associate 12th Circuit judge received a letter addressed to him back in 2023, at the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk’s office. The letter was delivered through certified mail and stamped as confidential.
The letter included a notary certificate of service and an IRS Form 56, notifying the IRS of the creation or termination of a fiduciary relationship. By sending the letter, Baldwin allegedly threatened the judge “with civil actions through the fake Civil maritime commercial court systems, if he does not vacate his present office,” the statement reads.
The judge told law enforcement that he was familiar with Baldwin from presiding over a prior case in Audrain County.
Baldwin was arrested Thursday at 1:25am by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office and booked in to the Callaway County jail. She was released later in the day after posting a $25,000 cash-only bond.
