Seven People Injured Following Missouri Department of Corrections Van Traffic Accident in Boone County
Five inmates, and two officers have injuries following a crash involving a Missouri Department of Corrections van and a tractor trailer during the afternoon hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
According to a DOC spokesperson the inmates and officers were on their way to facilities in the western part of the state when their van collided with a tractor trailer on Missouri Highway 124, just east of U.S. Highway 63 in Boone County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report it happened when the tractor trailer, driven by a 44-year-old man from Union, was westbound on Highway 124 when it began to cross into northbound Highway 63.
The van, traveling northbound on Highway 63, then struck the towed unit on the tractor trailer.
The inmates and officers were taken to University Hospital for treatment with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
Officers from the Moberly Correctional Center were dispatched to supervise the hospitalized inmates.
