A large crowd gathered at the Wellsville-Middletown High School gym for a floor dedication on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024.
This event took place to honor the basketball careers of Fred Johnson and Billy Roundtree, who still currently sit one and two on Missouri’s list for most total points in a high school career.
Roundtree has 3,552 high school career points, and Johnson has 3,243.
Roundtree says this event was one to the top events of his life.
The event not only showcased Roundtree and Johnson, but also served as an opportunity to talk about some of the great teams in the history of Wellsville-Middletown basketball.
The boys teams that were honored consisted of 79-80, 80-81, 85-86, 86-87, and 21-22.
The 1982-83 girls team was also honored.
Among the accomplishments of the teams through these years were top finished in the state tournament.
Wellsville-Middletown R1 superintendent Tiffany Gosseen told the crowd “Our unofficial motto this year is restore the roar.”
Gosseen says since becoming superintendent from day one she has been struck with the mentality of once a Tiger always a Tiger.
At the end of the event a tarp was pulled off unveiling the newly named “Bill Roundtree and Fred Johnson court.”
