Officer Involved Shooting in Kirksville Under Investigation
An armed suspect was shot and killed by a Kirksville police officer in Adair County on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
According to the Kirksville Police Department, officers went to a call around 4pm on Wednesday, about someone making threats with a knife inside a home located about two miles from Truman State University in Kirksville.
Police said two officers knocked on the door of the home and were confronted by a man with a large knife and a woman who was screaming.
The officers attempted to deescalate the situation, but the man allegedly charged at him with the knife.
That’s when one officer shot him.
Police said officers immediately rendered first aid on the suspect.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment and later was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
Police had not yet shared his identity as of the morning of Thursday, January 9, 2025.
The woman at the home and the two officers in the incident were not injured.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control have taken over the investigation.
