Man Taken to Hospital With Serious Injuries Following Fire at Jefferson City Storage Building
The following press release was sent out from the Jefferson City Fire Department.
Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a storage building in the 2500 Block of C Hwy in Jefferson City. Dispatched at 0138 hours, first-arriving fire crews encountered heavy fire involvement and immediately initiated fire attack on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Additional arriving resources located one male occupant outside of the building and initiated patient care.
Due to the patient’s condition Cole County EMS resources provided critical care level interventions on scene, including advanced airway procedures and the administration of a CyanoKit.
The patient was transported to a local hospital and eventually transferred to a burn center in St. Louis.
The patient is in serious but stable condition at this time.
Fire crews worked for over an hour to bring the fire under control.
Due to the absence of fire hydrants near the scene, additional apparatus were requested to assist with water supply, which contributed to the extended firefighting efforts that lasted several hours.
Cold weather conditions, including ice and freezing temperatures, further complicated operations.
The fire response involved extensive resources, including:
- Jefferson City Fire Department (JCFD): 5 apparatus, 15 personnel, plus 1 Chief Officer.
- Cole County Fire Protection District: 1 engine, 2 water tenders (3,000-gallon capacity each), 7 personnel, including 1 Chief Officer.
- Cole County EMS: 2 ambulances, 1 CCEMS Chief Officer.
Additionally, Jefferson City Public Works played a vital role by salting roads where water tenders were refilling and providing an excavator to assist with overhaul operations, aiding in the extinguishing of the fire.
Crews remained on-site for an extended period to contain the fire and manage overhaul efforts.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office.
