Macon Mother Pleads Not Guilty to Child Abuse

A Macon woman pled not guilty yesterday in Macon County court to two felony counts of child abuse on her 6-month-old daughter.

Court documents show that University Hospital staff called the Missouri Children’s Division on May 19th about possible child abuse regarding a baby who had fractured bones. During an interview with Missouri State Highway Patrol on June 17th, 20-year-old Ann M. Andrews allegedly admitted to abusing the child on two separate days in March.

In both instances, the child reportedly would not take a formula bottle, and Andrews became frustrated and yanked the baby’s arms and legs multiple times, fracturing several bones in the process.

She allegedly told law enforcement that the assaults occurred while the father of the child was at work and no one else was in the home.

Andrews faces a bond and counsel hearing Thursday. She is being held in the Macon County jail on a $250,000 cash only bond.
