26-year-old John Austin Harvey, of St. Joseph, has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 9am today (Tuesday) in Boone County Court.

He was formally charged with multiple child sex crimes in Boone County, after a 12-year-old girl was reported missing in Columbia on July 9th and she was found with Harvey on July 11th.

Videos on the victim’s phone showed Harvey raping the child. In a post-Miranda interview, Harvey admitted to engaging in intercourse with the child.

He is charged with Statutory Rape and Statutory Sodomy and is being held in the Boone County jail without bond.
