The trial of a woman charged with killing a 21-year-old has been delayed due to a mental health evaluation.
On Tuesday, the Boone County court granted the Missouri Department of Mental Health’s request for more time to complete a mental evaluation for Emma Adams.
The court set a new deadline of September 25, 2025, for a report to be filed.
She was accused of stabbing 21-year-old Sammy Clemens and then trying to burn his body.
After she pleaded not guilty to the charges, her defense attorney filed a claim that Adams could not stand trial due to multiple, severe, untreated mental health issues.
Adams was charged with Second Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action, Tampering with Evidence, and Abandonment of a Corpse.
She has been in the Boone County jail for 945 days awaiting trial or professional treatment.
