A Fulton woman is behind bars after officials say that she hit two children’s bicycles while driving drunk.
The alleged incident occurred at 8:30 a.m. at Binder Lake Park in Jefferson City. 25-year-old Tatum B. Townsend has been arrested.
The SUV reportedly hit the first boy’s bike and threw him from his vehicle, while the other boy was able to dive out of the way, but Townsend also ran over his bike. That boy is thought to have suffered a broken ankle.
The children were there as part of the 2025 Binder Lake Bash, an annual mountain bike race for middle and high school students.
Documents state that Townsend had a blood alcohol content of .252.
Prosecutors charged Townsend with felony counts of Aggravated DWI, Second Degree Assault, two counts of First Degree Property Damage, Leaving Scene of Accident, and Armed Criminal Action.
She is being held in the Cole County Jail without bond.
